The biggest problem with Indian education system is that it is designed to produce employees and not scientists and entrepreneurs. The syllabus is huge and a lot of un productive topics. less practical knowledge, too many exams. outdated syllabus. etc etc
Based on certain comments, would like to add that producing good employees and engineers is also very important. every person cannot be a scientist, ceo or founder of a company with no other employees. Just that R&D status is currently is poor and there is a lack of options and funding for the domain.

What's stopping Indian government from bringing reforms in Indian education system? I have this very genuine question. It feels like government is unaware of people's opinions about education, about market trends, about unemployment etc. Rather tham cheering on GDP growth alone, we must collectively do something to reduce the unemployment and that must start from the Degree colleges itself

Am doing phd at IIT BHU , i would like to say while checking answer sheets i find 70% students are not at all studying anything irrespective of category, all students are equivalent but condition of SC ST candidate is very poor. Bachelor degree in india is not resonating with recent developments. We still teach old and ancient methods in metallurgy. Students are not at all interested in these branches or other core branches . IIT has just become a way to get IT sector jobs . A metallurgical engineering student in IIT doesn't know what is steel , cast iron , blast furnace etc. this is the harsh truth , we have to just pass these students so that they can receive degree. This year very few core companies came as they can't give 20-30 lpa job and IT sector didn't come for placement as they are having slowdown. Hence half of metallurgical engineering department is unplaced this year . I won't say anything about Phd because we all know what is the condition of these degrees in india . I left my job for phd and now i regret why did i left my job for doing phd in IIT . Higher education k liye foreign jana hi thik hai 😢😢 my relatives left india but being single son to my parents no one supported me at home .. now am struggling

Not just in India, it is also true for Nepal as well. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering without any knowledge of computers or programming languages whatsoever. In fact, I am a university topper. There is no time for anything extra; college starts from 7:30 am to 2:50 pm, there are lots of assignments and tutorials for every subject, and on top of that, I don't understand a bit of the lectures. At this moment, I am tired of useless studying. Now I think either I only study to pass and do other extra learning myself, or I only study to become a topper. But the choice isn't that easy because good marks mean my parents will be happy, but good marks may be destroying my future. If only the teachers are providing good quality education, I think I will spend that extra time on other things like learning programming languages. If they don't, then my future is doomed.
