Symbolically wouldn't it be disingenuous to take an oath on something you don't have a special connection to? Previously people have also sworn on the constitution and non-fiction books for other offices and it seems like the point is the connection to the individual. Quakers and anyone who doesn't believe in swearing oaths can even call it something different entirely and solemnly affirm their commitment.
I mean, I know obviously bigotry won't make sense but the lack of internal logic is baffling.
