This is a great beginner lathe project, making shot glasses! Most projects on a lathe, be it bowls, or cups, require a 4-jaw chuck in order to hold your workpiece to the lathe. Well, those darned lathe chucks are expensive! So here is how to make a wood shotglass without a lathe chuck!

All you need is a faceplate and some sharp forstner bits and you can make wooden shotglasses all day long. Even better, these shotglasses make great gifts and sell really well at art shows! So check out this great beginner woodworking project and make some awesome shot glasses!

This method is also great for making a wood cup or a wood mug!
I used mineral oil as a finish, so these mugs are totally safe to use. Just keep them clean and re-apply mineral oil as needed and you are good to go!
