This technique works with Lee Enfield rifles too.

As the Teutonic Knight said, the cock on opening Mausers (and pretty much all bolt action rifles) can be decocked for whatever reasons the same way. The steps are a bit different, but pretty easy to figure out.

I usually store the rim fire ones with the bolt outside the gun, so i don't worry about decocking it. Been doing this for all my life. Bolt works every time.

On boltguns you can just leave the bolt up, pull the trigger and slowly lower the bolt down.

Given I’m from the UK and I’ll never touch a gun I still feel like I need this information for some reason.

Push forward is actually a cock on close only thing. Your typical mauser needs the trigger held down whole you slowly lock the bolt down. Slapping it down just dry fires it

They are perfectly capable of dry firing too just not a good habbit. Those springs are under tremendous pressure, and the pin isn't exactly the hardest material on the planet.

Instructions extremely unclear. Still ended up dry firing... Is there a way you could do it slower? Seriously, what's the difference between this and dry firing as I got the same result. The bolt just flew forward
