Maximus fucking thane, for those who dont know this guy will become the lord commander of the imperium for a while during the initial years of the war of the beast. He is a glorious bastard that is the epitome of what a space marine (who isnt a salamander) should aspire to be, he respected the normal soldiers who fought alongside them and tried his damnedest to keep a failing imperium together he would make dorn,guiliman,vulkan, and the emperor himself proud.

I remember reading a conversation similar to this between a gaurdsmen and a grey knight. The gaurdsmen asked for forgiveness because he hesitanted on the battle field and that he was ashamed for being afraid thinking himself a coward. The Grey Knight paused for a moment before kneeling down in front of the gaurdsmen. He said "I to am afraid. I thought myself a failure of a knight. Knights are supposed to be brave. But I have learned that without fear there is no bravery." "You are no coward, for even in the midst of demons you have done your dutie. You. are. brave. And I am proud to fight beside you." The gaurdsmen was honored by these words. He was happy. Sadly this conversation ended in tragedy. Demons of the warp corrupt, so grey kights have to kill anyone who incounters them. So after the gaurdsmen gave his gratitude he turned to leave. He was hopeful and proud. Then the grey knight he was speaking to swiftly cut his head off. It was a clean cut and the man felt no pain. The knights caption scolds him. "Would a bolder shot not have sufficed?" The knight standing over the dead gaurdsmen sheathed his sword and said "the blade was quicker......and more dignified." The knight then gave the gaurdsmen a small grave with a small metal chunk as a head stone adorned with the gaurdsmens helmet . On the head stone the knight wrote "here lies a man braver then I". I don't remember which book it was but this bit has stayed with me. The best moments in warhammer are the tragic human moments.
