Why is it so great to see a 60 second video with a question, an answer, and a satisfying conclusion?

The real reason to harvest garlic scapes is because they're effing delicious!!!!

So keeping them off gives almost double the harvest (unless keeping them to experiment with seed saving as some garlic varieties that form viable seeds)

Each garlic scape will produce dozens of tiny garlic bulbs called bulbils. A gardener who wanted to share plants or create extra garlic beds, for example, could leave a portion of his garlic scape bulbils to do so though it might take an extra season before they reach harvest size after planting them. The bulbils are exact clones of the parent and almost indestructible so that is a big plus, kinda like the Swiss flag.

All plants put more energy into the flowering stage than anywhere else

One year I was torn away from pruning the other half of my garlic. The pruned garlic were FOUR TIMES the size of the unpruned ones! Dismaying, but I learned my lesson.

I've noticed a lot of gardening advice works. One of the few crafts where tricks of the trade are usually right πŸ˜‚

Great advice, I have been pruning mine. They are amazing finely sliced and mixed with sliced potatoes wrapped in foil on the BBQ. Toss in oil, salt and pepper first.

you should've have distributed them randomly between with and without because it's possible that one area had more/less nutrients

Well as a person with GI issues and with a low fodmap diet, garlic scapes are great for adding that garlic flavor that I missed. I'll take the garlic scapes any day!!!!

I'll never let the scapes go to flower. Theyre delicious sauteed. Ive also made ham and scape quiche.
