Can You Maintain Huge Epipremnum Leaves After Propagation?

People often wish or ask for cuttings from a mature Epipremnum plant with massive leaves climbing on a moss pole, hoping to maintain the same leaf size after propagation.

Meet my Marble Queen Epipremnum, a result of two years of nurturing. I propagated it, I snipped cuttings and put them in moist sphagnum moss near a window.

The new growth has smaller leaves because propagation starts the plant from a juvenile state. No big leaves!! That busts that hope!!

However, with time, care, and the right conditions, they can grow as big as the parent.

Remember, nature doesn't take shortcuts. Adequate light, regular watering, and a moss pole support system or climbing structure are essential for achieving those 'BIG' leaves we all love!

Those “smaller” leaves do not look like you’re back to square one! They’re still a lot bigger than the regular ones!!

True but I they don’t fully revert to immature leaves, they’re still quite large

If you were to air layer the pieces (using soil or moss) would they still default to juvenile or would they maintain their size since theres no real lack of nutrients/transplant shock? My thought is that air layering until theres a lot of roots before you cut and replant should in theory make the plant think its being repotted vs propagated. therefore maybe the growth would stay the same size? Im curious about what you think about that. Maybe an upcoming experiment?

Do moss poles attract fungus gnats? Due to keeping them moist

Luv your new hairstyle! In my climate it wouldn’t/doesn’t work, unfortunately. I’m not going to give up though

Would you say the size of the new leaves is a function of the thickness of the stems, seems even reverted they are still sizable. How long did it take it to go back to previous size? Beautiful plant btw

That's absolutely insane that that is a marble pothos. I've never in my life seen anything like that, you are the Leca Queen! 🫅🏾 I am getting that foliage fertilizer this week and I cannot wait.
