Tldr on how the interaction functions;
Fear passive has a very brief timeframe where the Q passive is still active after being seen.
Moving or flashing instantly cancels passive, this is tied to how other inputs has priority over the passives grace period.
Passive can bypasses the cancel prio through a startup animation W (and E) has, which means fear passive is still attached to W (+E) after you flash.
Has nothing to do with the R input buffer.
There are a few key reasons for why this combo is possible, mainly;
-How fiddle Q passive works
-Fiddle R interactions with Q passive
-W startup animation/channel
- Q passive interaction with common abilities/inputs
-How riot coded ability priority.
First, a misconception; contrary to popular belief, in this combo you don't actually input buffer W during the R channel. You buffer the W during the small frame the PASSIVE is still up after you blink with ult (you can still input buffer while channeling the ult, both interactions still exist).
For fiddle passive to work properly there exists a short grace period after you have been seen where passive is active, mainly to make sure to trigger the fear when you ult or fear from bush with W/E.
This grace period can be cut short by inputs like Flash and movement because they are coded to cancel the passive directly once you are revealed (reason why flash+W or flash+E don't work, while the reverse does).
What passive does is that it effectively attaches the "terrify" passive to fear to your abilities
Why W+Flash works is because W has a "hidden" startup animation that can't be interrupted by flash (flash is coded to not cancel certain ability wind-ups, e.g. kassadin W or annie W).
This means that W technically started casting with passive attached AND before the flash is triggered, meaning that technically the passive is still attached to the W through the flash.
Adding all this together creates this fun interaction that adds alot of possibilities to fiddle, making his skill-ceiling much higher then expected because of the inherent need to be aware of exact vision ranges to be able to use fiddle to his full potential.
This combo as an example gives you an option to still get off game-winning multi-fear ults while standing in the open if you channel R right outside their max vision range.
