People complain that the transition isn’t smooth but in reality that’s how it looks in every mainline Mario game. The only time where the transition was smooth was in the Mario & Luigi games.

I think if it did represent the invincibility, people could wait until you turn yellow again to attack you. Fun fact, you can cancel the red by using a boost item.

It may not be accurate but it can help u a lil to know that ur invencibility is over
Like if u get hit by a red shell then a blue shell appears, if u get back to normal u can just... accept the fact ur gonna lose on the finish line at 0 coins
