It may be constitutional, but it is NOT democratic as the winner is NOT voted in by the majority of Canadians.

Our system sucks. I should be able to vote for a prime minister and a local MP separately. Prime minister should be based on popular vote, regardless of geographic density.

First past the post is pretty much the least representative and least progressive system that there is

ITS NOT A FAIR SYSTEM AND DOESNT REPRESENT THE FULL COUNTRY. TIMES HAVE CHANGES AND POPULATION HAS GROWN. TIME FOR A FAIRER SYSTEM. PERIOD!

GO CCF GO! Although I don't first past the post. Every single vote must be counted and no decisions made until BC has finished voting. All the while trudeau and singh are discussing how they can cheat the votes.

The problem with the voting system today is that you have 20 people running, but only 2-3 names are considered as actual candidates by the media, or the social media. During our last mayoral election, people didn’t even know there were 20+ choices. The idea that your vote, if hand backed the winner, then it is “thrown away“ is the wrong mentality that needs to be challenged from the school days of our citizens. If you’re to only vote for the winner, then there’s no reason for anyone else to run. People should look up each candidate and vote for the individuals and not the party.

Our voting system is just fine. It's our parliamentary system of Government that is bad.

Good work going on here, thanks. FPTP is relatively tidy and efficient. I would definitely like to see reform in the direction of better representation, but this will take a long time. Just like elsewhere in public life, there is this axiomatic dichotomy, and it’s false.

Even assuming for the sake of argument that it violated some Charter right such as equality, how could one provision of the Constitution trump another provision of the Constitution?

So it doesn't matter if something is right, only that it is constitutional? Ok got it.

Just because it was around since confederation doesn't make it right. Human progress is a thing you know.

It'll have to be done in courts! Common folk can't fight the propagandists. BC has had two referedums and lost. The arguments for first past the post are quite week and people were literrally getting all rauled up about shutting down industry and jobs.... really! We need some kind of community mural that can show how sense and nonsense make actual circuits or not. We need to somehow see beyond the facade together for a few moments enough to hear and be heard. In a world that claims science and reason there is sure a lot qu'est-ce que c'est about everything! And not just the modern left!

It may well be constitutional, but it is not fair. It does not represent the country as a whole. I think we would be far better off if we were to have a separate vote for PM and MP's. The fact of the matter is that Ontario decides the governance because of the constant movement of voting boundaries creating more and more MP's within a very small area. We need proper representation based on geographical boundaries with set number of MP's.
