How I break a 3+ day fast 👇

I just completed the longest water fast I’ve ever done and this was how I broke it.

First off, let me clarify WHY I fast in the first place:

❌ I do NOT fast for weight loss. Fasting for weight loss is just called starving yourself. 72 hours of fasting does not lead to meaning full fat loss. Most of the weight lost is water weight and you gain it right back after the fast.

✅ I fast for the longevity and health promoting benefits: mainly autophagy. Prolonged fasting induces higher levels of a process called autophagy. This is a process by which your body breaks down and recycles old and damaged parts of cells (malfunctioning mitochondria, misfolded proteins, etc). This clears the way for new, healthy cellular components to take their place. It’s essentially cellular recycling! ♻️

When I break a fast, I focus on the following:

✨Nutrient density — my body has had zero nutrients (other than electrolytes) coming in for days so I try to give it as many as I can to replenish and restore. This comes in the form of bone broth, vegetable juice, and easily digestible fruits.

✨ Gentle food — some people can eat a whole meal after not eating for three days and be fine. I am not one of those people. If I eat too much too fast, I will have an unfortunate situation in my intestines and would be at risk of pooping my pants 💩 So it is important for me to slowly wake up my digestive system first with liquids, then less liquidy liquids, then softer and easier to digest solid foods

Ive been wondering if a 3 day fast might help me with better recognising my hunger cues? Im autistic and have issues with interoception (recognisisng hunger, fullness, thirst etc), and i wondered if youd recomend this for mindfully taking note of changes in how you feel to better recognise hunger and fullness in the future? I personally cant find much peer reveiwed literature on this so no worries if you dont have an answer! 😊

Wow, 4 days!! Well done. I dont think I'd be able to do more than 2 days - i literally look at things like your profile picture and I am like 'oh yes, please! Pancakes!'. If I didnt work out 5 days a week I think that I'd get fat reaaally fast 😅
