This is a great tip. Have used it for years and and years. When I was remodeling I just threw a piece of OSB on the ground, to create a flat surface and put the foam on top of that. I'm really surprised that Eric didn't know this one. The woodworking community has been using it for at least 20 years. Probably longer.

I've had a 2" piece of rigid insulation in the trailer for about 3 years now for exactly this. Absolutely a game changer. Best $40 you'll ever spend. You can also use it in a pinch for somewhere that needs rigid if necessary. Solid info.

I've been using the same piece for about a year now and wish I had known about it long before! Great tip!

Learned this one a few months back from YouTube and have been using it ever since. Best!

Been doing that for years .. added bonus - use the accidentally broken off pieces as standoffs for storing boards vertically on concrete. Doesn't wick moisture and keeps the wood from damage with no "sticking" your stored lumber required..

this is a great tip of your using an actual table or saw horses with joists or something in between. If youe just using to regular old saw horses built with 2x4s i throw a sheet of zip sheathing upside down and set the depth to whatever your cutting

Yes, I've been using the same piece of 1" thick foam as a cutting board for years. You can also use the same board for pattern routing with router collars, etc. Works great. The only downside is keeping a big sheet of foam around, but it works so good it's worth it.

After reading the comments on how common this trick is among woodworkers. Talk to the general public more, i am not a woodworker but a handyman for sure and i follow a lot of woodworking channels and never came across this tip before.

Due to space limitations (living in NYC), I keep couple of smaller foam insulation boards. Works just as well but doesn't require too much room. Tracksaw is one of those things that transforms the workflow. If you add some Parf Guide MDF, you almost don't need a table saw.
