Guys, if you like any aesthetic it's okay, but dont try to change your behavior in order to fit that aesthetic because that way, it doesnt mean you have sark academia aesthetic, each person have their own aesthetic so dont try to change it❤

I mean..... 'Aesthetic', by definition, relates to how things look

Hello, just to note, I ended up changing the title because I didn’t mean for it to come across like it did. I’m just trying to emphasise that the things we do are important. Obviously there is nothing wrong with just focusing on certain aspects of this aesthetic (only the books or the fashion or the music). We can take parts of any internet aesthetic to make it our own x

Ruby this is great! Could you do an entire video on dark academia someday? 🍁

I have a hot take on dark academia (or any related aesthetic) which is that it can be as performative as we see fit (as it does no harm to anybody). Ultimately I feel that aesthetics create a sense of belonging for those who of us who enjoy the types of things/dress how that aesthetic represents. For me in particular as a reader, writer, keen student and a heart which is partly from another time, it is a comfort; to gaze at relatable visuals on Pinterest, to practise in my own life, or to dress accordingly. That’s the thing about aesthetics, we can sort of selectively choose how we closely or distantly resonate with it.

I definitely agree with this 🤎, but the definition of aesthetic is how things look, but amazing video

all this stuff you described is just Victorian or Edwardian eras Like Sherlock holmes and Miss.Marple do these things and those two like bright things in their cruddy smog filled European settings

For me, I just enjoy listening to music and/or room noises that are “dark academia” themed on YouTube for studying 😂

I don't know, i like some of the activities associated with the aesthetic but i don't think we should police something that people enjoy, just feels pretentious and gatekeep-ish

Very perceptive comment about DA not being performative but practiced. Culturing the excitement of learning is something to share - but it's not for everyone.

Dang I fit the aesthetic and I didn't even know it. I dress all black except the shirt and stain my fingers all the time. The only thing missing is finding someone to write letters to.

To me an aesthetic is completely based on how you look and how you think but boundaries for each aesthetic are not so well defined. I often see people who are obsessed with a certain aesthetic so much that it gets really cult- ish. They start surrounding themselves with that specific aesthetic limiting themselves to discovering new things. And these aesthetic communities also have certain things that you are required to do in order to be in that community which makes me want to not be a part of them as they sound like a cult which i despise. That's the reason whenever someone calls me a specific aesthetic, it annoys me even tho i love that aesthetic.
