Mia With Down Syndrome Was ALMOST ABORTED But Is Now THRIVING!

We are Cara and Mia, and this is our Could’ve Been Aborted story. Thirteen years ago, when I, Cara, was pregnant with Mia, a doctor told me that there was a higher-than-normal chance that my baby would be born with Down Syndrome. We were pressured to undergo invasive testing that would confirm a Down Syndrome diagnosis, which would likely cause a miscarriage. The doctor pushed for the test earlier than recommended, suggesting we could “kill two birds with one stone.” Mia is now thirteen and an absolute joy who is not defined by her genetic makeup. This is our Could’ve Been Aborted story.

It is a disability. But get this: disability isn't a bad word.

She is the reason I stopped wishing to visit Iceland. The country decided eliminating Downs was beneficial for the country and forces testing and abortion on all pregnancies. The goal is zero Downs people in their country, this would be a loss for the nation and the citizens.

My daughter too. I protected her from the doctors’ abortion advise. How dare they!

If this beautiful little girl doesn't change some minds, nothing will. My Lord, but she is the PERFECT messenger...

I didn't even take those in utero fetal diagnostic tests when I was pregnant. I would have my baby and take care of him/her regardless if she had a medical condition or not. All babies deserve to live.

Not all people with Down syndrome will be able to live a normal life like this, but that doesn’t mean they’re not valuable people or should be aborted. They are still people with minds, hearts, and the ability to experience life. Calling a disability a different ability can be harmful, though, since in even the most good circumstances, there is some degree of being disabled, or else you wouldn’t have a diagnosis. That doesn’t mean she’s necessarily suffering either, though.

I like Mia Armstrong's definition of Downs Syndrome: it's not a disability, it's a different ability (& her superpower 🕊️💐💗)

This is disturbing to see such a young kid on stage. I disagree with anyone putting their kid out there like this at such a young age. I couldn't imagine doing that to my kid. I believe across all plat forms. Kids privacy should be projected.
