We use structural screws INSTEAD of nails a lot while framing custom homes... and they are more expensive than nails. Here's the places we choose to use them.
We use and recommend GRK RSS or GRK R4 screws for common framing applications.

I do a LOT of re-models and repairs. I use screws to minimize vibrations and dislodging wall hangings etc. Love these short vids btw!

Also, if you REALLY want the pieces you're securing to never come apart; overcoming the power of the inclined plane of the threads is much harder than even ringshank nails.

I used GRK screws to frame shower niches this week. I didn’t feel like picking up my heavy af nail gun.

Finally a video with someone using flex drills! I bought them when they came out and I love them. Never see anyone else using them

A palm nailer can get in tight spaces when you need nails. Nails have good shear strength vs screws that are brittle to bending, like in floor joists or ganging king/Jack studs. An inspector might not give you a pass if they see a screw where there should be a nail unless the engineer accounted for it in design or materials like using Simpson or Tapcon structural screws.

Some things that I was taught which may or may not apply but screws have pull strength and nails have sheer strength

So if we built a house with screws what could happen to the house in the future

Built a whole house with those screws. Foundation, subfloor, walls, windows, trusses, roof, everything.

There are also occasions where nails provide better shear strength and sometimes a project will be engineered that way.

Does the code sometimes explicitly demand the usage of screws over mails?

I think the question he was being asked is what's the load capacity of a nail and the load capacity of a screw and their share value

Great short!

Depends on the task right. Like a screw will break but it won’t pull out. And nail will pull out but it won’t break.

Nails are always quicker and faster. Screws are great for final assembly and permanent position of truss or framing , stick framing where hold down or up power is called for on metal!

It's funny to me as here in the UK we use screws for everything.the only thing a nail gun gets used for is fencing, or weather boarding.
