Trick to get along with your teachers(from the child of a teacher): Treat them like a person! Be respectful and kind and occasionally make small talk. Teachers have talked to me about their kids, their weekends, and their lives outside of school, and besides being actually interested in hearing about these things, it gives you a great reputation and might get you certain freedoms that other students don't have.

the thing is if you put a little extra effort on the FIRST homework assignment it sets their expectations for you. Though teachers often have many students there is still a possibility that they’ll link you to these higher expectations, so going above and beyond on your first assignments isn’t a good idea.
