A lot of commentary around France in WWII also leaves out tye French resistance that kept on fighting throughout the war regardless of the actions of the government at tge time and tge subsequent Vichy regime. Also a lot of countries capitulated to nazi Germany, but Frnace definitely gets the most shit during the discussion. Also I've heard the only reason why Britain didn't have to surrender is because the English Channel provided a relative degree of protection and orlf course the US was half a world away woth more time to build up its armed forces and tge support of the rest of the Allies and given the physical distance involved probably had the least to lose at home in the mainland US during the immediate course of the war, the losses and the contribution to the qar effort not withstanding. Also what we now know as France was essentially founded by Clovis I and in school I was taught that he was a warlord. I also have a lot of criticism for the participation of France in all the genocidal imperialism and colonialism and slavery that has dominated the past few hundred years of human history (and I'm a man with a lot of French, more specifically Norman ancestry) but a lot of people really don't know a lot about French military history. Also if this was an country tgat we were taught to oppose as a matter of morality (such as Russia, and no I'm not praising Russian foreign policy, although I don't condemn anyone who just happens to be Russian either) those people probably be praised for refusing to fight and perhaps even be lauded as brave given the consequences that they could potentially suffer for doing so. Anyway, my long winded, digression filled rambling is over.
