Fun fact about the Movie Fusion Reborn, it happens in a Alternate Timeline where Goku when using SS3 for the First Time on Screen against Buu, kills him and then simply teaches the Kids the Fusion Dance if they should ever need it
Hence why they only use SSJ in the Movie, since Goku had no reason to ahow them SS3 and they didn't use the Hyperbolic Time-Chamber, also why Gohan seemed Stronger while not accessing Ultimate, since he doesn't have it

I once read someone that said that another turn of events could be to leave the self explision for the end of the arc. Maybe turn vegeta evil at the end and then ending the arc with his redemption by actually killing buu with the explosion. Could have been more impactful

Well I think Vegeta would have been transported to where Goku was all this time. Training together and getting along with the other fighters like Pikon? Most likely not right away but after Goku showing Vegeta his SSJ3 form he kept hidden from their battle, Vegeta would immediately demand training, sparring and more to also achieve that form.
