They where probably trying not to sacrifice a rocket and get the payloads up. Some heavy cargo that was worth more than that 3rd rocket is going up. The question is... is its dollar value or is its strategic value worth more than the 3rd rocket. 🤔

"The third booster won't have enough propellant to get back down to Earth" - I mean, it absolutely will get back down... Just not for a controlled landing. But this is the first Falcon Heavy to be launched expecting to expend the center stage. (All prior F-H launches tried to land the center booster on their floating barge.) This is a big deal - this means the main satellite is both large AND going to a high orbit. Considering the first ever Falcon Heavy launch launched a car beyond Earth orbit.
