Cue the comments about not using bleach to clean a fence. Most guys say to avoid it because it throws off the PH level quite drastically, but the oxalic acid will bring that level back down and act as a wood brightener. You can use sodium percarbonate instead, which will offset the PH level much less but it may not clean as effectively. A happy medium is sodium metasilicate; this is what most guys recommend for fence cleaning. From a cost perspective, all of these chemicals are relatively affordable. We use sodium metasilicate and follow it up with oxalic acid. When customers say, "the price is too high," we offer to do it with bleach for a lower price since the cleaning process is much faster. You can end up with a green hue and a duller look, but some people don't care. As long as they agree to it and you make them aware of the potential side effects, there's nothing wrong with it.
