I usually put my carving under the faucet to get it wet. Then I squirt some dish soap on it, and work the dish soap all over the carving with an old tooth brush. After it is sufficiently soaped, I rinse it well with cool water, and pat it dry. Then set is aside until it is dry enough to paint.

What are you recommendations for obtaining larger basswood pieces? I have experienced a really difficult time finding blocks larger than 2x2x6”. I know you’re probably located in the US, but just curious.
