I too get the struggle of people staring angrily at you just for ordering something that isn't available at the moment. Frankly, cashiers shouldn't be upset about small matters like these especially towards their own customers... but it just do be like that sometimes.

Ordering anything other than the same thing I ordered the last 27 times is the worst. If I don’t know the restaurant I’ll typically just order whatever the plainest chicken option is, typically off the kids menu. 😅

Yeah, staying with the same appears to be the best choice usually (when possible).
For example, when we get food from our local chinese restaurant, my mind automatically thinks "oh yeah, crispy duck", so my tastebuds will just refuse anything else (except the soup and entrée). Sometimes even during the days leading up to us ordering.

The strangest thing happened to me at a Hardees. Due to being a picky eater, I just order regular hamburger from most fast food places. One day I was with my parents at a Hardees and did my normal order. The person gave me an odd look and asked if I meant a cheeseburger. I said no, I wanted a hamburger... And they asked me again. This exchange boggled me and I decided I was going to point it out on the menu when I discovered (to my utter surprise and dismay) there was no regular hamburger on the menu. I was left babbling at that moment and my dad came up behind me, thinking I was having some kind of shy moment and with a bit of "why can't you just order" grumble to me, orders for me only to still be met with the same "do you mean a cheese burger". After I shakily point out that a regular hamburger was not on the menu, he (without missing a beat) orders "a cheeseburger without the cheese". Apparently that order worked.
To this day, I STILL don't know how or why that Hardees didn't have a basic hamburger on the menu on that particular day.

I'm just like this, no matter what restaurant or deli I go to, if it doesn't have a "cheeseburger with fries" or any variation of it, I don't like it.

I do order the same thing a lot, but my family is...chronically incapable of going to the same restaurant more than once even ones they love, so I never having a usual anywhere. Unless its a restaurant I specifically request.
Although in my case Id order the spiciest curry on the menu pretty much anywhere.
