Ultramarine's under-appreciated special skill is that no tactic or weapon will work against them twice. They'll analyse why they lost, and make whatever changes are needed to ensure it doesn't happen again.

It makes sense that Ultramarines have a hidden rage since Guilliman does.
Guilliman is usually quiet, calm, careful, and rarely ever gets heated.
But if you do something to truly piss him off he flies into a berserker rage like Angron.
It's probably no coincidence that Guilliman and Angron landed on planets relatively close to each other.

Word bearers needed the element of surprise for a reason. They picked a fight with the second largest Legion, led by the primarch with the most level head, who orchestrated an empire 500 worlds strong. If Big blue pulled up on Istvaan 5, the shattered legions wouldn’t be shattered

Theres a few situations where you dont want to find yourself in:
Blood Angel when he starts saying Horus.
Ultramarine who throws away his Codex.
Salamander when they stop being polite.
Spacewolves when youre a thousand son or Grey knight.
Ravenguard when youre a word bearer.
Dark Angel when you know about the fallen.

The trope of the stoic/quiet people actually being terrifyingly dangerous, when angered is always a good read. Just the sheer joy and rage Guilliman had when he saw some Word Bearers, before massacring them.

The scary part about Guilliman is, is that unlike Dorn or Angron's Rage, his is calculated, methodical, and outright cruel on levels that rival Morty and Kurze.

I dont think most people realize how devastating calth was, 120,000 ultramarines died at that one battle with another almost 30,000 rendered unable to perform in combat anymore, calth was extremely extremely devastating to the ultramarines, which also shows how good the logistics of ultramar are because in just a few years guilliman rebuilt the whole legion and then led a gigantic fleet the size and power of which could wipe out the entirety of the traitor legions in a 1 on 1 battle all the way to terra to break the siege
