So the boss agrees without making sure it's even possible first? That's on them!

If they don’t do this, the boss will look bad. Where is the incentive exactly?

Overpromising and underdelivering is far more likely to lose clients than holding them to the original timeframe.

"How far away is the client office?" "50 miles" "Can you drive there in 30 miles? I promised them you would"

Boss wanted to look good in front of the big client so he agreed to an impossible deadline, and now it's the engineer's fault that he can't change the laws of physics to prevent the boss's own bad decisions from making himself look bad. Oh and I'll "make the time" as soon as my requisition for a time machine is approved.

The deadline is yesterday, please remind yourself two days ago, to be ready tomorrow.

So being late because boss promised the impossible WON'T look bad to the client? Yeah, no, this will end badly.

I worked in a print shop for 11+ years, and my boss (owner) was forever over promising jobs! It was especially frustrating when the whole shop (csr, graphics (me!), printing, bindery) were all telling him that it could not be done by that deadline. He's the boss and didn't know what our capabilities were? 🙄

Part of the managers JOB is to run interference between unreasonable demands of higher ups/clients and the team. This manager isnt doing his job.

So many bosses do this. Too scared to say no to a client so they pile on ridiculous pressure to employees.

"Did you tell the client that I could ship their order to them in 20 minutes?" "Yes. I figured it wouldn't be a problem for you." "It takes the glue six hours to dry. And we're in Key West. And the client lives in Utkiagvik." "So 15 minutes, then?"

I've had bosses like this. Such as on one construction site it'd be along these lines: Monday morning: "Get this section done by Friday." "We haven't got the stuff to do the job. When's it coming in?" "Thursday afternoon." "What are we supposed to do until then?" "Get on with the job." "How can we do that without having the stuff we need to do it?" "Just figure it out." The fool really wasn't listening. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of stories I could tell.

I had a boss do something like this once. One of my many duties was to integrate a new compliance system into our operations. I had to work through 10+ years of mismanaged files, an audit every other week, and approximately 2000 files that needed to be tracked, produced and organized into the new system. The project started in February with a May deadline. After the first week I calculated how long it would take me to complete it alone, which turned out to be mid-july as long as there qere no complications. I asked for more assistance and received nothing. It wasn't until we failed to meet our deadline and failed to pass inspection that he finally got me some help. He made sure to blame me for the failure, of course

Can we talk about the fact that the boss spelt infront as infant cause that's some irony right there

When the deadline comes and the project is not done it is on the boss and he can take the hit.

They say make the time as though they want him to create extra hours in the day.

Time can’t be made. I’m very fed up with hearing this from bosses. As I aged I’d ask for demonstrations on how to make time. They’d get angry as a result of having their foolishness highlighted.

While I'm at it, do you want me to solve world hunger, repair the ozone, cure cancer, and bring about world peace? Sure, I can get that done by tomorrow. 🙄
