Seriously, no hate, we're just two Europeans who are so confused about this🥲

Such a huge part of flying is being able to look out, enjoy the scenery, and see the world from above! Who wants to spend hours inside a metal tube without any light or hint of the outside world?😂 If it's about keeping the plane cool, why keep the shades lowered while in the air?

Any explanation is welcome😉

They tell us to put them down when we get up so it’s not so hot for the next people getting on

We look out the window. Just when on the ground we are told to close the shades to keep the plane a comfortable temperature especially in the summer

My shade is always up unless the sun is blasting in on my side of the plane ✈️

Because the airlines are cheap and turn off the AC when parked. This is for your survival...

On the ground it gets hot. Thus we close them to keep plane cool till up in air. (Where it's naturally cold)

Hmm, I wanted to keep mine open on my last Lufthansa flight and they made me close it...

American here. I don’t like when it’s too bright, so I roll down the shades. Love looking outside at night, especially when we’re close to landing. You see city lights everywhere! 🤩

It saves fuel so they don’t have to run the air conditioning on the ground. As part of our landing checks we have to endure all blinds are closed before we disembark and I work for British airways so it’s not all American carriers.

Right its like the best thing to do on a plane, to watch scenery from above. I much rather watch outside than watch a movie or something which I can back on land 😜

Once up in the clouds on a long haul flight closed blinds add a cozier atmosphere to the plane cabin

I think we all love The Hannahs. ❤

It's to keep to cabin cooler. Usually, FAs tell everyone to keep it closed during take-off and landing to help the plane keep cool. I've noticed it happens more often on the west coast due to the high heats.

It’s too bright for me😂 but I do love the 787 windows

Pretty sure it’s because of a thing called the sun.
