I’m sorry she got hurt, but I’m confused. In my six decades of bipedalism, I have encountered many different types of surfaces under many different kinds of climactic conditions. I learned long ago that the condition of the surface affects the quality of friction. I’ve learned that wet, snowy, or icy sidewalks offer less traction than dry ones, and that if I ignore the laws of physics I may be pushing my luck. Just a couple weeks ago, I was walking on a paved path in a park when I encountered a muddy section due to recent rain. I knew it would be slippery, but proceeded anyway, causing me to slip and fall. Since I don’t hold the city responsible for the weather, it never occurred to me that the fall was anyone’s fault but mine. Am I missing something?

A property owner included in the lawsuit?
I can understand if the water was from their property and that they had control of the water.
But since she fell on City Owned property.. how is the land owner responsible?
Did the "slippery when wet" sign come after the incident or has it been there all along?
If the later.. how was the city or landowner liable?

This story is so scanty, D-. How did she fall? What about the water made her fall? How long ago did she fall? How do these laws work & why do we have them to begin with? Is there a similar case about a minority that had a different result? At what age should ppl start to worry that a fall will destroy their leg muscles? What can they do to delay that onset?
The fact that the payout is about equal to her medical bills should be more prominent. Keep the "tax dollars at work" crowd off this lady's back.

Did the City of Seattle fix the sidewalk? Probably not. They'd rather pay $13M in lawsuit damages. Ridiculous.
