My daughter needed them, told me her adult didnāt have enough room to come in. At the time I had dental insurance. Lost my job and couldnāt afford to keep them up. I asked to have them removed and was denied unless I paid for the whole treatment. Went 2 years asking different dentist offices to just remove them, Iāll pay for that and was denied. Finally the dentist she sees now agreed to remove them. It shouldnāt have taken 2 years and dentist telling me the old office had to agree to them removing it. Old office offered no payment plans and refused every time a new office called to remove them. Itās not always on the parents. Some of us tried and was denied any reasonable accommodations.

I say more power to her. It looks like she did a great job of removing them, and good on her for wanting to take care of her teeth. 11 years is ridiculous.

I had braces for 4 years. My gums were always inflamed the whole time I had them. After they were removed, I had a wire put in the back of my bottom teeth to keep the teeth in place. (I had that wire in there for over 25 years) I still suffered from inflamed gums that always bled. I never had the wire removed because I couldn't afford to go to the dentist to have it removed. Even though I had insurance, dentists still wanted all money for the procedure paid upfront and then reimburse me later. It got so bad that I had to go to the ER. I found out that I was allergic to the metal from the braces and the wire. The doctor said I was lucky that I didn't die. I ended up getting all my teeth pulled and got dentures. The allergic reaction to the metal literally rotted the teeth out of my mouth.

Braces are initially expensive AND the maintenance is sn additional cost during and after they are off. It's just on going and that's one thing you have to consider.

Some ppl can barely make ends meet and don't qualify for public aid or assistance. Basic Dentistry can be expensive depending on your situation. I have Dental insurance that doesn't cover much and I have a job with the STATE. I need dental work that I can't afford so Sir Please give us a solution to this Huge Problem that has ben on going since the Beginning of Time.

I just took my 4yo to the dentist for the first time last week. Based on the x-rays, braces are definitely in her future. Luckily, I've considered this possibility when she was born, and I've been saving tough into my HSA. This girls mouth looks like it's in pain, and I don't want my daughter to go through that because I poorly planned.

I know someone who had them on for years. Fortunately, they were finally removed before they did any real damage to her gums and teeth. I agree that braces for most people are medically necessary, and insurance should cover the expense.

I think that it is criminal that orthodontist wonāt remove braces unless youāve made the final payment.
if someone canāt pay in full, then discontinue the treatment plan and remove the braces, but subject someone to have braces in their mouth for years unless they can pay the balance to have them removed in my opinion is criminal!

I had a similar situation when my son got braces half way into his treatment i ended up finding out i had breast cancer and couldn't work .....no work=no money to pay health insurance. i just couldn't stomach making him wait longer bc i ended up with breast cancer(even if it was something out of my control). On the days i could get up and move around without feeling like absolutely death, id door dashed to make that monthly payment to his orthodontistā¤

Because dentists wanna charge a fortune for oral healthcare. Straight teeth are better for your oral health. Getting them fixed should not be considered cosmetic, but preventative.
