Go read history. There is a papal line going back to Peter (and the Bible also has the names of two successors of Peter in it). There are a bunch of Christian books written in the second century naming the popes. Confession to a priest is biblical my friend, in John 20 the Lord tells the apostles the following: "Receive the Holy Spirit.Ā If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.ā
Through apostolic succession, the priests of today have that same authority.
Who's teaching that purgatory is eternal? Hell fire is eternal though
