Redmond police to implement new drone technology for emergency responses

The Redmond Police Department on Thursday will demonstrate drone technology that officers will use to respond to incidents.

The drones as first responders program was launched for emergency responses, police said. The program enables a pilot to fly a drone to an incident, "quickly assess a situation and possibly de-escalate it without directly exposing officers and community members to harm," police added.

Drones will be dispatched along with officers. The intent is to arrive faster and provide real-time information to responding officers, “unlike other agencies that use drones as a resource after officers arrive on the scene," according to Redmond police.

How in the hell is this thing actually gonna help anybody in an emergency? This thing is for surveillance, and nothing else. Quit lying.

On top of requiring the body camera and audio equipment they carry to be on at all times that they are outside the police station or substation in public acting as an authority along with Equip the vehicles with drones as well to provide undeniable, direct, tamper proof, eyewitness evidence in real time of ALL ACTIONS they do while "ON THE CLOCK" under the color of "authority".....

Reminds me of that Ray Bradbury story. You couldn't step out your door without being tracked and watched. Then, if you get in trouble for being out past curfew, you get picked up by a drone helicopter. One guy eventually found out that no human had been operating the system for DECADES😳😳😳 Wild.

That's a terrible idea, so they're going to send a drone first and then assess the situation, then send a police officer, if need be, wouldn't that take longer. If sending the drone in addition to police officers, that cost more for taxpayer, you would think not. But I'm sure they would think of a way. I bet this is just a way to spy on people with face scanning.

Wait, so the police are stalking the public by drone, and then sharing that stalked footage with the public? That double violates a right to privacy.

Well, there are serious police oversight issues that should be dealt with before they take on technologies that require even more oversight, so we know this is going to be problematic.

How long before these drones become equipped with firepower?

Why bother with the drone. Just install cameras in my home and you can tap it immediately
