You can bury gold in dirt and in 1000 years dig it up and clean it off and sell it. I think capsules isnt necessary at all unless its a very rare collectable or you just have ocd and love your gold coins new and shiney like i do.

I took some profits off the table during Covid and was able to sell scratched Maples for the same price as the pristine ones. Not saying you can do that day in, day out, but you can during a run.

I keep my bullion coins in capsules as they are relatively inexpensive and minimize contact marks that some dealers will ding you for. The commemorative gold coins that I buy directly from the mint never leave the capsules they ship in as those proof surfaces are extremely delicate. Of course, don't overestimate how much protection a capsule will provide. I dropped a bullion coin in a capsule and it shattered with the coin rolling on the floor! ha ha

I don't. I personally love hearing the sound of clanking bare metal. Some have picked up character but I'm not concerned.

Gold Eagle - $2350. Air-Tite - buck and a half. Pretty easy math.

They don’t “need” capsules. But if you don’t want them to get damaged? Then capsules are a good way to keep them from scuffs and scrapes when handling them/presenting them.

As I buy whatever is cheapest at the time, I have Britannia's, Maple Leaves, some Kangeroo's and some Lunar coins. They're all different in size so I don't have enough to fill a tube. Until that moment I keep them in the capsules they come in 😀

You inspired me to have a glass of bourbon or scotch the next time I’m playing with my silver and gold coins 😂

I like my coins in capsules. I like the direct fit Air-Tites the best but they are on the expensive side.

I just keep all of mine in capsules so when I do go to sell them I won’t have the dealer say well I won’t be able to pay you full value because they are pretty dinged up.

That's why I prefer 900 (21.6 K) gold and silver coins. Those are/were design to be used, and were used in the past as regular coins.

H32 Air-Tites are like $0.90 per capsule. $0.75 for a set of 20 that fits inside an H capsule tube. That's less than $20 for a tube of 20oz gold worth like $50,000. Get the capsules.

I generally use them for the coins I want to handle. For the stuff in long term storage it's tubes all the way

All Perth Mint gold coins come with capsules, regardless of whether they are limited or not.
