Not a coincidence. That's the part of Alabama that supported the most slave plantations, because of those cretaceous era nutrients. And so its the part of Alabama where it was mostly Anglo-Saxon slave owners, where the descents are mostly African Americans. The rest of Alabama was mostly Scot-Irish poor white farmers and only a few slave plantations.
