learning that "advice" needs to be taken with like a tablespoon of salt when you're autistic and it's coming from a neurotypical person was life altering. I used to impliment EVERY bit of advice and when it didn't work for me I figured I had done it wrong. But now I tell myself (literally out loud sometimes) "something working for someone else does not mean it must work for me"

One reason why I married my husband was right from the first date we had this super long talk about everything. One subject was how we both agreed that alone time was vital to us. That we couldnā€™t get along without it. It was such a good talk and I went home feeling calmly energized instead of exhausted. Best. One. Ever. I think heā€™s more neurotypical than I am but neither of us is ā€œnormalā€ and we love that so much! 30+ years together now. ā¤

i'm so glad i came across your channel, as a 20 year old autistic who's just starting to figure out all this life and living alone and being a responsible adult stuff, on top of dealing with a world not made for me, it's really great to hear from an older autistic person and know that i can eventually get to a point that i actually enjoy my life and i'm not just constantly burnt out or just trying to get through the day without melting down. your content has helped me a lot to have hope and keep going and taking care of myself best i can, thank you ella!

Sometimes you explain things perfectly! As a late, self-diagnosed Audhd-er...I feel this! Such a struggle. But it's really been great for me to give myself the grace to just rest and be alone. Thank for sharing. It's so nice to know there are others out there who get it :)

For me it's finding the balance between fulfilling my autistic needs and my extraverted needs. Energy banking really helped me - I split my table into physical, mental/autistic, social and emotional energy. So now I'll take stock of which "energy tank" is empty/full and to which degree - there isn't always a perfect activity for all, but it helps me prioritize so much! šŸ˜Š

I am screwed without enough alone time. Everything comes crashing down and i get extreme burn out. Just recovering now from a phase of not being able to have alone time forā€¦ over a month. Was not good. I am so burnt out. Gradually recovering.

I have ADHD and I need that alone time as well. I don't know that I have autism, but I started masking when I was very small, with varied success. But being alone is wonderful. Being around people every day, or every other day, or whatever is exhausting. When I see a video like this, I feel vindicated. Thank you so much.

I have auadhd anxiety etc too and I find that spending time with friends often does make me feel absolutely heavens better, but that being alone does too. So sometimes it is up to me to recognise which one is it that i need. Because i might be just dopamine seeking trying to get away from the uncomfortable alone time, but i might also be craving connection which is a valid need. So utter chaos šŸ˜‚

Gosh I only meet my friends once every 4-5 years now I'm in my 40s. I don't think I could cope with more frequent than that

OMG I wish I could get more alone time... my brother lives with us and is ALWAYS home being loud and making noise. The autistic introvert side of me hates having to interact on my down time and the ADHD side is always messing up whatever I try to do because of the noise and interruptions. Hopefully he gets his own place in a yr or so. I love him a lot but I am so ready to get my own quiet space back.

Love this! Also, the subtitles were right over top of that delicious looking drink - what kind of drink is that?
