Open time is key. Golden Open Acrylics are amazing for scumbling, glazing and blending gradients on the canvas. Not quite as versatile as oils, but I highly recommend them.

I switch from acrylic to oil a few months ago and am still in awe over the things oil will do that acrylic won’t. But my favorite thing is cleaning up messes. I live in such a dry environment that if I accidentally get acrylic paint on clothing or carpets or other things it shouldn’t be on, no matter how fast I move to clean it up it’s already set before I can get to it. If it’s oils paint though I can take time trying to save as much of the paint as I can and then just scrub the rest out with Dawn and hot water.

I've started oil painting recently (with advice from your channel) and I'm loving it. Until now, I've tried non-abstract painting mainly. May I know why you said abstraction is better with acrylics?

Oil is best. I live in a very warm weather and acrylics are basically unusable: they dry on the palette while mixing. Even when using medium.

I want to learn painting with oil. I work with portraits in charcoal, and I want to start learning to paint portraits with oils. I am kind of lost. Where and how can I start?
