Just stunning voicing control...

Trifonov is just incredible. The speed, control and phrasing in the left hand is just... wow. And to play legato chords without pedal this smoothly and without any gaps, is almost as impressive.

The left hand is on at least 5 pounds of morphine

He turned that into an etude

Some thoughts: I love when a pianist is doing something incredible and the cameraperson focuses everywhere but their hands. Also, I always wondered what a major key version of the Winter Wind etude would sound like, and this seems pretty damn close tbh.

I know what a piano looks like why not film his hands

At first I thought the video was sped up, but If I were Daniiel "Fire" Trifonov Every now and then I would leeave the academy behind and try to prove a thought for the sake of it (for example, what if the melody could be more perceivable with a faster and lighter accompaniment?). He surely would be able to play slower and more romantic, but that is what everyone else does.

I think Rachmaninov was inspired by this for his Moment Musical No 4 in E minor. You have the left hand in perpetual motion in semiquavers, a right hand melody in “double dotted” rhythm (for lack of a better phrase) and a section where the right hand plays with the left hand semiquavers in unison, except Rachmaninov takes it further and doesn’t end the piece right there.
