I started to have excessive hyperhidrosis when I was 17. It practically ruined my social life. The worst part were my armpits, no Rx helped me at all and when I was 20, I had the sweat glands in my armpits surgically removed. In 1980 there wasn't much on the market so that was my last option. Both incisions got infected and I have such ugly raised scars under my arms. Now I'm 64 and I don't care who comments when they see it because I refuse to stop wearing sleeveless dresses and tops in the summer. It's amazing how many people have come up to me in the grocery store to check out my scars and ask questions. It used to irritate me, but then I realized that people were just curious. The great thing is that the hair follicles are removed too, so no shaving ever again. The downside to this was that my feet began to sweat which hadn't been a problem before. I wish I had more options but I tried everything available at the time.

I didn’t have noticeable sweat problems until I started my birth control a few years back. It was INSANE how much facial and scalp sweat I had for the years I was on that particular med. Made all the more noticeable because I worked in food service at the time and was suddenly hyper aware of how I had literal drops of sweat coming off of my face at the slightest exertion (being in a hot kitchen, with gloved hands that were covered in food so I couldn’t just wipe my brow, led to me doing weird contortions drying to avoid the sweat dripping anywhere it shouldn’t as subtly as I could).

I was drenched in sweat from my teens through my thirties. The sweat glands in my head and neck were mostly affected. I could not wear make-up because I would sweat it off in big drops, terribly embarrassing. I didn't have acne but I felt the sweating was worse. But at 40 it just stopped. Has anyone else heard of this?

I have this. It's absolutely horrible. Buying new shoes all the time. Sweating through your clothes. Hand always being clammy. It sucks. As other people said it does affect your mental health a lot. It embarrassing and its comfortable wearing pants or work boots in the summer. Also, for me at least, antiperspirant makes it worse

I Do Sweat A Lot For No Damn Reason. Is There Any Best Antiperspirant You Would Prescribe?
Also I Am Sensitive To Mild Temperature Changes. Like If Environment Around Me Feels A Little Hot, My Body Will Start Sweating Rapidly, And In A High Amount. But, If It Feels A Little Cold, I Just Can't Handle It.
It Is Really Weird For Me 😂

I had this problem, It was debilitating. The digits on my finger would swell and look like grapes during workouts. It would sweat til it hurt and I had to run my hands under cold water for relief. Finally got it fixed through a symphadectomy procedure. Now I have compensatory sweating through my back but at least my hands are dry and normal.

I have severe hyperhydrosis, mostly on my hands and feet but affects my whole body. It’s affected my mental health a lot and causes me a lot of social anxiety sweating through my clothes and I can’t shake hands! Which is always fun to explain. God forbid trying to use a touchscreen phone in summer, it’s like using a phone under a shower. I had no luck with antiperspirants and the oral medications prescribed to me caused severe side effects (and are linked to dementia). I recently bought an iontophoresis machine and this has worked super well on my palms and feet. Unfortunately I had to avoid going through the NHS because of multi year dermatology waiting lists. Anyone who has any questions feel free to respond, hyperhydrosis is not really taken seriously by GPs and can really impact you socially and mentally. Edit: surprised Dr Karan didn’t mention this but stay away from spicy foods, caffeine and alcohol. These are big triggers for sweating.
