This is actually helpful information. Most reviews I’ve seen only focus on the positives of capsule hotels.

The smaller the hotel room, the louder it is

for those considering capsule hotels - also note that this was at an airport, where people will be coming in and out pretty often as they arrive and depart on flights. you may have people making noise in their capsule late at night in a capsule hotel in the city, but typically the foot traffic will lessen after dark. also consider requesting a capsule furthest from the entrance as you will get less foot traffic

I stayed in a capsule hotel in Tasmania, each pod was fully enclosed with a lockable door and had climate control, so it was super comfy and mostly quiet, honestly I enjoyed it.

some people dont get that the room is communal space. capsule hotels are my FAVORITE cheep accommodation option but I have also had someone answer the phone and midnight and loudly talk to their relatives about how much they hated the person they are traveling with. I made sure to make a loud noise to remind them they were not alone XD Hopefully the person the were with was in another room

Aircon is a MUST in those tiny capsules.

Wow this is the first time I’ve heard a neutral to negative review of a capsule hotel! Tysm! I’ve wondered what kind of things can go wrong for ages, everyone makes it look so peaceful.

In Japan all capsule Hotels i stayed at always had an aircon. The only „problem“ I had sometimes was the noise, but with headphones it wasn’t bad and considering the price and cleanliness I was always happy

I tried one in Kyoto in 2016 and what made me decide it wasn’t for me was the smell from other guests- yikes.

I think this works well for younger people, who have less trouble getting to sleep and staying a sleep (or anyone ex-military). It is definitely an issue for me now but wasn't when I was 25.

Still better than sleeping upright in a chair in an airport Lobby

I stayed there in June and had an awesome experience. They even gave me a small bag of tea leaves too!

I mean the noise and people coming in and out is actually pretty common in any hostels I've been at 😅

I had a 22 hour layover in Taipei several years ago. I got a hotel that was a short and inexpensive cab ride from the airport. There wasn't much space beyond the full-sized bed, but it was air-conditioned and the on-site restaurant was really nice. I think I paid $25-30 US for the night--worth it.

I usually wear noise cancelling headphones going to bed or have them playing lofi music or rain sounds, its the only thing that helps my tinnitus

I remember maybe 30 years ago seeing something about those on TV. These units look bigger and nicer than back then.
