Don't let wizards know you have this information or they may send the pinkertons after you

Releasing the 'big three' books months apart sounds like a genius business move... if you've been kicked in the head by a horse.

Honestly, the only reason I'm excited for this "new" version of D&D is so that I can call my 5e book collection complete and proceed to never buy a book from Hasbro again without that nagging sense of having an incomplete collection. Other than that I genuinely cannot see any reason why anyone would be interested in this. Every previous edition of D&D (even the much-maligned 4th edition) was an attempt to do something different. This "One D&D" just looks like a rerelease of 5e whose only substantive change is its attempt to tie players to its virtual table top. So yeah, after decades of cRPGs trying to emulate the experience of playing a ttrpg on your computer, here comes Hasbro with the brilliant idea of designing their ttrpg to emulate the experience of playing a cRPG.

phase 1: make characters for a system you don't know the rules of and so you can't make informed decisions on said character. phase 2: now you may have the rules to the game you've had characters ready in for months. but we will be running a loose PbtA style game since we have no stated NPCs to fight or ally with. with the rules i guess you could also guess at the ballence and make the monsters yourself. phase 3: you may now play your completed subpar wargame where you occasionally narrate why you roll to attack... after the next year has rolled over- get pinkerton'd hasbro

I'm still so confused by their branding and positioning of this new editon. So 6e is New Dnd or One Dnd and it will then be the forever edition? I'm still not sure what they're bringing to the new edition. Some of the bigger changes they proposed got walked back in playtesting.

I moved back to D&D BECMI, and AD&D 1E back in 2016. Then I discovered Castles & Crusades around 2019, and when my 2 year plus AD&D campaign ended I moved to running C&C. My plans for 2024 are to run: ShadowDark, Crown & Skull, Castles & Crusades, Call of Cthulhu 2E, Weird Frontiers, Dune, Blade Runner, TMNT, Conan 2D20 (for final time). I not only stopped supporting WotC but I’ve actually given away my 5E core books to me niece. I won’t touch modern D&D again unless WotC no longer holds the IP.

I don't think I'll be switching from 5e unless I absolutely have to. Find it odd that they're releasing the three main books separately. It makes me wonder how much of it they've changed if they feel like they need to release the books that far apart (almost like they're trying to give the players enough time to properly read each)

The game where you use your imagination has a new edition!!! Nickel & Dime edition! Just - you know - imagine that you bought it.

I'm not a business expert, so I could be completed wrong. But to me, it seems like selling the three core rule books so far apart is a bad idea. Why should I buy any of the books until all three are released? But then again, I'm not planning on buying any of the new books any time soon, so I'm probably not the target audience.

Still on 3.5 and probably going to either Cypher or SWADE when that campaign eventually ends in a few more years.

edition after edition after edition. just play the rules the way your group decides.

D&D is my favorite RPG! But it seems like Hasbro and WotC are working hard to push the border of what I find acceptable. So over the last few years I have started going over to other RPG systems.

I've largely already moved on from WotC D&D. I'm playing a Tales of the Valiant (from Kobold Press) playtest character at my Monday night D&D table (with DM's permission), and nobody notices much of a difference. ToV releases officially in May. Meanwhile, I'm running a Pathfinder 2E game on Wednesdays. I haven't played WotC D&D in months.

I am most excited about 5e becoming the old edition and I should be able to get the books cheaper. I have no interest in playing oned&d

These are useless to me. I won't need them. Let me know when Hasbro releases Wizards from bondage

This is... Disappointing. I was waiting for this release to het back into D&D after many, many years away. Was thinking i'd pick up the set, and be able to start playing not long after. Making it 2025 just means I'll probably lose interest and get distracted by something shiny in the meantime.
