Yeah, great method, but where I am at there’s groundhogs and raccoons galore! Those potatoes would be gone within hours. Trying not to create a buffet for the critters.

24 years ago I bought a new to me home with lousy soil and I did close to this..I dug really shallow trench ,put potatoes in, covered with straw, covered straw with what little dirt I had dug from trench. Added straw as grown and a bag of discount organic dirt in bags..mostly straw...had best crop of fingerlings ever.

My grandfather used to hire threshers to separate grain in fall and grandma would bury potatoes in the chaff. It was how they grew potatoes years ago. Same concept. Awesome to see people doing this.

I did this last year using soiled straw from my chickens. The potatoes did well even though it was a drought year- it's got fertiliser built in!

The fire ants, voles, and ground hogs are grateful for this tip.

great method that has worked for us many times. However, the potatoes should be sprouted first before planting.

That's awesome. I live in an apartment in Seattle but I just planted some potatoes in a container to grow. Wish me luck!

Organic straw... very important for successful growing as the vast majority of pastures are being sprayed with herbacides that cause Aminopyralid. It can be found in manures as well... from cattle that have been grazed on these herbicide sprayed pastures and hay.

I had an elderly gentleman I used to take care of that always grew his potatoes like this. He told me about it when I was talking about growing potatoes in pots.

We did this last year, lots of big potatoes. Way better than buckets, sacks and mounds.

I've actually used this method of growing potatoes! Just adding more hay as the potatoes grew! The best part was when it came time to harvest, just removed the hay and picked up the potatoes! No digging or trying to get them out of the soil! This is a great method for growing potatoes! 👍
