Honestly, pretty brilliantly written - you can really feel Garviels heartbreak in his words.
Also, retroactively, this closes the small plothole in the third novel that Horus never even tried to consider turning Loken, who used to be one of his dearest sons - if you listen carefully, Loken doesn't speak anywhere of the betrayal against the Emperor or the Impierum. Horus betrayed them - his Sons, the Sons of Horus. Never even asking some of them to join them, already taking for granted they wouldn't.
What was probably originally an oversight by the writer turns this way into the most personal, most prefound betrayal - their father didn't even ask them. He turned around and stabbed them in the back, which is a betrayal just as or even more profound as the betrayal of the Imperium at large.

You can really feel the hurt in Horus’ voice and garviels anger and disappointment. They got the father son quarrel on point, I feel bad for both of them even knowing what horus has done, Horus still loved him enough to keep giving him a chance before being interrupted. Love it
