My cactus greenhouse collection in Spring, Pt 5/5: Prickly impressions! | #cacti #cactuscollection

Part 5 of my spring-time cactus & succulent plant collection tour in my greenhouse. Spring has started on the northern hemisphere and my plants are coming back to life, following a long dormancy period over the winter months. Buds are forming and new growth is starting on many of the plants. As the plant collection is standing cool and dry during all of the dormancy break, it takes special care to slowly adjust and prepare them for the upcoming growing season.

I usually carefully spray them lightly, using luke-warm rain water, once or twice when the temperatures start rising - that will often be in early March. Then, about two to three weeks later, the first light watering will occur, and another perhaps two weeks later. By this time we are into the month of April and plant growth can now seriously start - often in conjunction with the first wonderful blooms on my cacti and other succulent plants. The first fertilizing in my collection will only happen in early May, when plants have redeveloped their root systems again fully, after the long winter break and spring "re-awakening".

Sit back and enjoy with me!

Cheers,
Joe

Beautiful Gymnocalyciums and Parodias! 🤩 I thought that the spring can fully start now, but NO, the weather forecast says very cool temperatures for next week 🫤 My Hortensia and strawberries are already in full development, hopefully they won't get damaged by the cold. Naja, wie man so schön sagt: Der April macht, was er will 😅 Sende dir Kakteengrüße von Kassel nach Bayern! :) By the way: At the end of May, a "Pflanzenbörse" is taking place at my local botanical garden - with the Kakteenfreunde Friedrich Ritter also participating. Even though it's still 1,5 months into the future, I am already looking forward to that even
