Personally I really like yuji as a character. I know a lot of people say he’s boring or that Gojo is the MC, but yuji is just adorable! His ignorant optimism is something I can relate to. Especially as that optimism is challenged time and time again. He’s a big goofball and I love it. He struggles with his newfound standing in a world he doesn’t really understand but purely wants to help people. Not to mention his grandpas dying words are simple but something to really ponder the more death yuji faces. I don’t think JJk is the best story ever or the deepest or the most complex, but I do think it’s a lot of fun. What story is there is interesting enough to keep me invested and the characters are fun to watch.

Maybe its just me but JJK definitey has depth?? Yuji going through his character arc in season 1 where he absolutely gets over killing people and realizing that sometimes things must be done. Megumi getting over his own desire to be a team player and putting his own ego as a sorcerer first to ensure his own survival rather than going through the motions with the intention of being a sacrifice bunt through his encounters. And this is all just in season 1. For the story complaint I do disagree but the story that is being built up towards is culminated where we are at in Season 2 as of right now. Everything from season 1 was building towards Shibuya

The depth of JJK kinda comes from the philosophy of combat itself, not unlike classic Hong Kong Kung Fu films from the 80s. It's the idea that each style is a reflection of each character's outlook on life, and so each fight is a debate on what does and does not have meaning. Character wise then, everyone is crazy, because only weirdo lunatics communicate with their fists. Edit: The more I think about it, the less I'm sure that can be called depth and just my reading of it as a big dumb kung fu movie nerd. Never mind, don't listen to me, but do see what I said so that it can be criticized.

While what you said is logical, i think that you took his comment very litterally. Op , naruto for example are filled with endearing characters and emotional moments. Its just not the case of JJK focusing on impressing the viewers by shallow crazy cool battles and what I like to call top model tik tok characters. Bleach did that but knew how to tone it down (simple yet engaging story, superb music score, ambiance and atmosphère, most characters are likable, you feel invested (even in the school arc).

Spoilers included on my complaints against JJK . . . . . . . My main issue with JJK is that the bad guys win every major story beat. And sure, this means every fight has the possibility of someone dying which makes them real and interesting, but also makes some villains feel way too strong in terms of power-scaling, especially despite the long battles JJK has. When you get to the Tengen vs Kenjaku fight, it’s one of the few fights where Kenjaku feels like the one with the most plot armor. And then, as the battle drags on and on, he wins with 0 repercussions. Or the culmination of all the Mahito fights, where Mahito always has the edge by what feels like some Deus Ex Machina type final moment. I also have to complain about the power-scaling. Gege complained that with Gojo, no fight feels real since he could always swoop in and save them, but when he writes villains like Kenjaku and Sukuna, Gojo honestly feels like the ONLY solution. Any fight the good guys win (beyond Gojo) is never a story-beat fight, it’s always an intermediate fight with some no-name that feels was written before the fight. Not to say they’re uninteresting, but it feels so gross! Despite this I still like JJK, and Gege puts a ton of depth into specifically the world-building (in Japan, not anywhere else lol) and power mechanics, but it really does focus/shine in the fighting itself which disappointed me. JJK could approach seinen territory if it shortened the fights for more character/plot development since everyone other than Megumi feels pretty flat too. JJK had so much potential, but as it approaches its end, I just feel a little disappointed.
