Preheating on instructions, especially ready made food, mostly guarantees that the cooking time is the same for every oven. How long appliances take to preheat varies a lot so otherwise companies couldnt provide cooking times. Except for very few delicate baked goods, most cakes and cookies bake just as well without preheating and skipping it also saves tons of energy. Sorted food here on youtube have a lot of resources on saving time and money while cooking, it is where I got my information from.

My Mother taught me from a very young age that you have to always preheat. Always. I just do it and not give it a second thought. No big deal.

Agreed!! Some stuff I can put in at the start and will be done less than 5 minutes after the oven is preheated. Saves sooo much time and energy!

AGREED!!! I add about 5 minutes to the cook time, and occasionally bump the temp up just a tad.
I don't even really preheat when I do cakes or cookies either.
I forget, do the standard "dammit" when I go to put it in the oven, then add time. Lol.
Surprisingly, it all works out just fine.

I always heard that if it's less than 20 minutes, it's important to put it in at the temp it calls for. But if it's more than 20 minutes, then it doesn't matter.

The beep beep when my oven is preheated is my alarm to check and see how much longer the food needs to cook or in the case of biscuits time to take them out lol😂😂
