reason why the f-35 was developed, becasue the gov could not afford the f-22 raptor and the way costs were going they worked out by about 2050 they would afford like one aircraft. so they stepped back and took the tech from the raptor and with the input of a bunch of countries developed a cheap stealthy aircraft that wouldn't break the bank, ,then make three versions of it for airforce navy and marines.
