Yes we are guests and should respect the ways and culture that has been there for years before we came along. No one visits someone else’s house and starts rearranging their furniture or telling them how to live their life. God forbid every place starts to be the same. My experience in Italy has been much more difficult than it was in Germany or Switzerland. I have gotten my residence card, but opening a bank account is impossible till now. Each bank had different rules and none accommodate a new resident. I'm beginning to think that Italy is not for me.

Moving to a different country involves an elasticity of one's personality. If you cannot bend and adjust, who's to say that the hosts citizens will bend and adjust to "Your requirements?" This is the difference, between Europeans and Americans and why Europeans, yet again roll their eyes and ignore the ridiculous behavior and inability of said expats, regardless where they originate. Expats are considered guests until they gain citizenship, and hopefully integrate well. Otherwise they are just another bad neighbor....hey where's Starbucks and why is the service so slow!!!... go back please, please go back
