People say âdonât make being gay your personalityâ but then proceed to group us all together with stereotypes and make jokes about our behavior. Ex: my coworkers used to make gay jokes about me literally every day I worked. Itâs not always that weâre making it our personality, itâs just what other people notice first.

Ok everyone in the comments is being HELLA mean at her for no reason so... it's not a matter of being "respectful of the environment or the religion". Most likely she was put there by her parents and its not like she CHOSE to be gay so she was stuck in a terrible environment. My guess is she was probably done with the homophobia and decided to fight back. I find it brave honestly!

iâm catholic and have gone to catholic school, and i agree with what she did. how exactly is she âdisrespecting the religionâ, by wanting a safe space for herself and other students? and who is she hurting by doing this?
edit: everyone who is in my replies arguing w/ me, i've heard all of your arguments before and i rlly don't care! you won't change my mind, your arguments are dumb, so pls stop cluttering up my notifs. thx!

I noticed a lot of comments saying Keara was disrespecting a religion, but in reality that school, who was teaching that religion, wasn't being kind and open to them and other LGBTQ+ kids. Keara is saying that's how the school viewed them, and to make the school more accepting, the club was created. The Bible never mentions anything about homosexuality, but it was due to mistranslations and misinterpretations that people think homosexuality is a sin.
Edit: I wanna address all the comments, first, the English translated version of the Bible has not been properly translated as I've stated before. Just because it's a Catholic school does NOT mean teachers should be hating or disrespecting students because of their identity. I am also going to an accepting, wonderful Catholic school so I've seen it first hand, my teachers and counselors are wonderful and supported and explicitly explain how the Bible has been mistranslated and is a bit out of date in today's society. (I personally am not Catholic nor Christian).God should love everyone, no matter who they are. And if He doesn't, then I respectfully disagree with this type of religion.

To be honest, itâs quite surprising to see so many comments against this post.
As someone who is queer and was sent to a private catholic school (did not have a choice), I understand what she means by creating a gay club.
She just wanted a safe space for like-minded individuals to attend, because kids who are forced to go (like myself) can feel very alone. Especially during a formative age when someone is starting to realize theyâre queer without having anyone to ask questions without being shamed. I would have loved to have had a LGBTQ+ club at my school. She isnât forcing anyone to go.
I donât really see it as disrespectful to a religion, because letâs say there was a bible study club or something like that at a school that was very accepting of queer youth, that would not be a problem.

Lots of people at Catholic schools arenât there bc they are actually religious. If you are gay in an unwelcoming environment, I believe itâs perfectly fine to create a safe space for people. As long as you donât push the topic onto people you know have a very drastic opinion on it then you, I think itâs good. Just donât start discussions every lesson for the sake of provoking your teachers, that doesnât help anyone.

I got expelled because I refused to apologize for being gay to the whole school
