I have a gf who is from Venezuela, visits family, and has been in-tune with what's been going on there financially for the last 20 years.
She told me the small simple cambios will exchange gold silver and USD. They test using chem tests, magnet test, caliper, and scale test. Many even use a beaker-gravity test. Multiple tests even at a simple cambio. Point...when SHTF, people find cheap, efficient ways to verify gold and silver. Cheap gold and silver is the best PMs when times are extreme.
The bigger exchange places have an XRF machine or pro gravity tester and will take major currencies like Euro, Mexican Peso, GBP, and Canadian $.

Beware of the tungsten āsaltingā of Gold Bars (& yes even the coins).
It was discovered or at least asserted by the Chinese upon receiving Gold bars from the USA a decade or so ago.

I love my 1/10 oz gold eagles. Because I know their easy to buy and easy to sale. Most my savings is in gold/silver eagles. Also some maples/Britanniaās as well lol.

In Eastern Europe and parts of Asia, bars are far easier to buy and sell than coins, and the premiums are far less
