I mean... they went into audiobooks because Sony/Warner/Universal have them by the balls on music rights fees. They report every quarter how much they pay out to labels, and like 80% of the money they make goes to these 3 labels. Going into audiobooks was an attempt to diversify and get away from trying to fight the monopoly that the big 3 hold on music rights. Unlike Apple Music/Amazon Music/Youtube Music they don't have a trillion-dollar corporation to bail them out.

I really love this channel. Your guys writing room must be something else. Keep up the great work! As a small aside I’m deeply in love with the blonde.

i wonder. if people could access their listening history, they'd probably realize they listen to the same... 100 songs 99% of the time? At which point, how much would that cost to OWN that music forever, instead of paying every month to rent the same songs to eternity? I can maybe understand a subscription for a multiplayer game, for example, or a design software that's constantly pushing important updates. But so many subscriptions are just rentals when ownership is a much better option. Historically, it was the slaves who never owned anything, not even themselves.

Only Spotify would raise prices right after a drop like that 🎢

And that's why I don't use, and never will use, Spotify. It's a great example of late stage capitalism. The business model is unsustainable, despite the pittance they pay to artists. Why? Because record labels, little more than middlemen taking the largest portion of the pie for themselves while doing almost nothing, charge exorbitant amounts for the licensing rights of their music to streaming platforms. Music is expensive because the RIAA is a cartel that fixes prices and gouges everyone. And Spotify plays the same game, padding the pockets of record label executives, while being expensive and unprofitable, both to themselves and to the artists who actually make the product they sell. It's dystopian to the extreme

Never spent a penny on Spotify πŸ˜‚ I had a few shares of their stock and sold them right before JRE dropped on Spotify. I actually earned money from Spotify
