Rooms don't have an EQ, they have a frequency response. Terminology matters

"If only I had this my mixes would sound better"

Our previous band sound man did this routine during sound check with a frequency analyzer/feedback machine and other rack components. It was all white noise and beeps and screetches. But every time he wasn't there for that, the band always sounded better

I thought he was going to take a bite out of it. 😊

I do this too!! Everyone should. I also, have a programmable board running DSP that compensates for Fletcher Munson equal loudness contours, with a couple of dyneqs, to combat loss of hearing sensitivity when I drop my monitoring < 83 dBA. This dynamic processing, IMO, is the icing on top of the icing of the cake.

I'm tempted to look up how much one of these costs, but then I remembered all of my favorite albums are mixed like shit. Just write a good song.

I had this sort of a device with Denon receiver that measured the EQ bias of the room (by sending different audible impulses) and created a profile that used later by default on everything I’d listened. It worked really well. The tech today is extraordinary.

I use SoundID and it’s absolutely fantastic.

if 50hz is a standing wave then no amount of EQ will fix that ....If you know its there ACCEPT and realise! mix accordingly

What about group phase distortions created by eq filters?

Meanwhile people listen to music from youtube on smartphone speakers or Bluetooth headphones, which all compress the audio to hell. Or simple listen in mono on Alexas. Sad really.

My only question with these is does it take the space of your body into account? I would like a work space like this, but i always figure not everyone listens to music in a clean space like this so it seems a bit extra. Like most people use wish brand headphones lol

But are you taking into account the speaker frequency response If you tune your room with your speakers then whats the point of having 50 different "flat" studio monitors? Dont you lose why you chose a certtain speaker?

Wow that’s top tier!!

Wear headphones? Mixing monitors should be for mastering and final mixing. Most mixing is best done in headphones

Just use a DSP and a measurement mic. A studio should have sound absorption, so it should read pretty flat until you get to sub base, well he has just overkill for no reason

I’m wondering where you get that Botox. Looks sharp !

Ysah you do it once though. Don't need to keep the mic up

you can do this manually with a 2 channel 30+ multiband compressor and a frequency analyser
