The best camo is called "sit down and be quiet ". The best scent control is called "wind in your face". I guess some folks only learn from the interweb.

Hahahahaha!!!!! I luv it!!!!! I do wear camo but it’s cuz I like it not cuz a deers gonna see me better or not while wearing it. I’m also a firm believer that no matter your regiment you’re never gonna fool a deers nose 100%. You can do your best to maintain a reasonable amount of cleanliness but in the end if the winds wrong your busted. If they get downwind and don’t bust you it’s got more to do with that deer at that time and it’s give a shit factor at that particular time. Yes don’t roll in gasoline and be mindful where deer are coming from and what the wind is when setting up and even watch your approach and where you leave ground scent. However if the best tree is slightly up wind of the trail and you have to cross over trail to get into tree and you had to fuel truck up on way to hunting then get in tree and hunt. You will never get the deer 100% if you aren’t in woods hunting!!!!!!

What I don't think a lot of people under the age of 40 realize is that, once upon a time, camo clothing for hunting made sense because it was half the price of your street clothes. (Often, we wore woodland BDUs from the surplus store.) You bought it cheap, beat it up, and readily replaced it when needed. But, over the past ~20 years most camo clothing is now double to triple the price of your regular clothing. It's now the exact opposite mentality of what it should be where your camo is "designer" and your "Sunday Best" comes cheap from Wal-Mart or Amazon. So, unless I find it super cheap, I don't buy camo anymore either.
(Experience: 30+ years of real-world bowhunting. Additionally, I worked in the outdoor television industry from 2000 to 2006. The company I was with produced shows for Outdoor Channel, Sporstman Channel, and Wild TV. As many things as I witnessed go freakishly commercial within the outdoor industry over the years, camo was definitely number one.)

I think camo and scent control is psychosomatic in many ways. If you dress up in camo you are more likely to behave steathily because you are in that mindset. There are people who get into that mindset with out putting the gear on. Same thing goes for scent control... If you are putting ever calm on your boots, washing in scent killer, dousing yourself in Ozonics you are more than likely going to be "scent-noid" and be hyper focused on your scent and you are more likely to be puffing a wind checker all the time.
I think its just a pre game ritual for the most part.
What cracks me up is my cousin back east who does all this stuff wears the best camo, ever calm, scent control, etc. He use to go through all the steps... yet outside of the hunting season he will be on the same property with a tractor, walking around the property and spooking bedded deer, flushing out bucks just doing property work ....
One day he was late getting home from work and just ran out to his stand... an hour later in his work cover alls and covered in grease he got the buck he had been after for 3 years.
Since that happened, he does less and less and still fills his tags...
I am not dogging on it... I do scent covering all the time... I wash my stuff then I throw it in a bin with some burnt/ charred wood I picked up while hunting and Ive done that since I was a kid.

I think it comes down to a few factors. What you’re after as a hunter. I’m after mature deer. I know I can’t beat his nose even with scent spray but I’d like to give myself the chance that he thinks that scent is over 10+hrs old and is no longer a threat in the area. I’ve had does and young bucks come in downwind with or without scent control. I prefer camo when bow hunting because absolutely without a doubt a deer can see a solid shirt or jacket. They may not be able to see the color but definitely the solid shape. It doesn’t blend in with the environment around you. I like to be broken up. I understand Jason’s perspective here though, he doesn’t hunt the same spot twice usually and has a great idea of what direction deer will be moving from cover and using the wind to his advantage. At the end of the day being downwind from deer movement is king. I do appreciate your sarcasm as well Jason lol
