Daycare dread is real! Here are some of the strategies we’ve been implementing.
We’ve built these tips from what research I could find out there.
There is a lot of conflicting information around so at the end of the day - take what works for you and leave what doesn’t.
1. Routine: Establishing a predictable schedule helps kids to feel secure. Knowing what to expect each day makes daycare/kindy less intimidating.
2. Reward-Chart: We’re using a sticker chart atm! 3 stickers = one reward. We’ll adjust this but at the moment it’s working well.
3. Goodbyes: We set up a “see you soon” handshake (high five up-top, down-low, bro-fist, hug). There’s conflicting info on if it’s better to do a brief goodbye or a longer one. We’re trying brief at the moment.
4. Comfort Objects: There’s mixed research on this. Sometimes a familiar toy but be really useful (sometimes it can cause problems). We’re sticking with our matching bracelets for now and it’s working well.
Bonus Tip: Be hyped! I’m always talking about how much I wish I got to go to Kindy/Daycare and play with the playdough and toys.
Ps. We’re rocking Sprinkle “Kia Maia” jumpers and bracelets. Comment “brave” if you’d like a 20% off coupon
